Saxophone & Clarinet
Mervyn Johnston is an active sax player on the local scene. He has been teaching saxophone and clarinet for over fifteen years. After studying Jazz and world music at San Francisco State he went on to graduate with a bachelor of music in saxophone performance from Duquesne University. His teachers have included classical master, James Houlik and jazz legends Branford Marsalis and John Handy. Mervyn is a certified teacher in Palm Beach County, and teaches band in several local schools. His current studio has all ages, styles and levels. Lessons are tailored to the goals of the student.
Jenna Brixius is classical flutist and music educator based in West Palm Beach, Florida. Ms. Brixius received her Bachelor of Music in flute performance from Oberlin Conservatory of Music as a student of Michel Debost, former principal flute of the Orchestre de Paris. She has also studied privately with Eva Amsler (professor of flute, Florida State University), Walfrid Kujala (former professor of flute, Northwestern University), Kathleen Chastain, and Alexa Still. A dedicated performer and teacher, she is an Artist-in-Residence and clinician at several Palm Beach County schools, including Dreyfoos School of the Arts, Santaluces High School, Cardinal Newman High School, Seminole Ridge High School, L.C. Swain Middle School, and Citrus Cove Elementary, and performs throughout South Florida as a freelance musician, including performances with the Palm Beach Symphony. Her private students have been selected for All-State, All-District, and Honor Band of America ensembles, and several of her students have received partial and full scholarships to study flute at high school and collegiate levels. In 2015, she founded her annual Summer Flute Camp at Chafin Music. She is an active member of the Florida Flute Association and served as a judge for the 2016 Senior Honors Flute Choir. Ms. Brixius enriches her instrumental pedagogy with Music Theory, Music History, and the Alexander Technique to offer her students a competitive edge through balanced, pain-free playing with enhanced musical expression.
She is currently accepting students of all ages with a desire to nurture and develop their inner musicians.
Alondra Bahls-Mariles is a passionate, enthusiastic flute instructor and music educator. She graduated from University of Central Florida with a degree in Music Education and Flute Performance in 2017. Under the guidance of Dr. Nora Lee-Garcia, Alondra had extensive training in solo and orchestral repertoire and performed in multiple small and large ensembles. Alondra had the privilege of studying under renowned artists; Philippe Bernold, Robert Dick and Bernard Goldberg.
Locally, Alondra attended Santaluces High School and graduated from Dreyfoos School of the Arts in 2013. She is a current performing member of the Florida Flute Association and South Florida Flute Orchestra.
Alondra is proud to be the band director at South Grade Elementary in Lake Worth where she teaches instrumental band to 110 students every day. She has experience working with flutists of all ages. Her diverse experiences will provide instruction to each of her students with the primary focus of pursuing their personal goals as a musician.
